    Die Forschungsgruppe “Prozessfluiddynamik und Strömungsmaschinen” beschäftigt sich mit strömungsmechanischen und thermodynamischen Prozessen in der Verfahrens-, Lebensmittel- und Medizintechnik sowie mit der Entwicklung, Auslegung und Optimierung von Strömungsmaschinen. Neben der akademischen Forschung arbeitet der Forschungsbereich regelmäßig und nachhaltig mit der Industrie zusammen.

    Im Forschungsfeld Strömungsmaschinen verfügt die Gruppe über langjährige Erfahrung im Bereich der Auslegung und Optimierung von Gebläsen im Haushaltsbereich, insbesondere der systemangepassten Auslegung. Darüber hinaus sind Gebläse und Ventilatoren für Sonderanwendungen z.B. Beatmungsgebläse, Tunnelbelüftung oder Großgebläse für Pyrolyseanwendungen Gegenstand der Forschung. Ein weiterer Kompetenzschwerpunkt liegt im Bereich der Kreiselpumpen, wobei hier vor allem Abwasserpumpen im Fokus stehen.

    Das Forschungsfeld Prozessfluiddynamik wird vor allem durch Themen aus dem Bereich „Life Science“ besetzt. Kernthemen sind hierbei personalisierte Beatmung und Beschichtung transdermaler therapeutischer Systeme aus dem Bereich Medizintechnik sowie neuartige Kühlungs- und Trocknungstechnologien im Bereich Lebensmitteltechnik.

    In der Forschungsgruppe kommen je nach Anwendungsfall analytische, numerische und experimentelle Verfahren zum Einsatz.

    Erosionsoptimiertes Gebläse

    Die Modellierung von Erosion bleibt immer noch eine Herausforderung für Akademiker und Hersteller. Trotz zahlreicher Erosionsmodelle, erfolgt die Modellierung durch aufwändige Experimente und empirische Korrelationen. Das Ziel dieser Studie ist, die Erosion in der Turbomaschine numerisch zu untersuchen und dementsprechend neue Auslegungsmethoden zu entwickeln, die in der Lage sind, erosionsoptimierte Gebläse und Pumpen zu erzeugen. Außerdem werden die bestehenden Erosionsmodelle weiterentwickelt um die Erosionseffekte in Turbomaschinen ausführlicher zu beschreiben. Die angestrebten Verbesserungen von den neu entwickelten Auslegungsmethoden werden durch mit Erosionsmodellen gekoppelte CFD-Simulationen sowie Experimenten untersucht.
