Master/Project thesis: next-Generation Narrow-Gap Rheometry

Background:

LSTM commissioned a new generation Narrow-Gap rheometer and is looking for a motivated Master’s or Bachelor’s student to carry out the experiments and research. Built around an advanced MATLAB coded motor system, newly developed piezoelectric actuators program, and a refined mechanical setup, the instruments extends how far we can probe the flow behavior of biopolymeric solutions. A world record shear rate regime is reached (200000 1/s), providing a unique pathway for students to operate one of the very few rheometers that can measure at this extreme. Highly applicable in modern industries such as cosmetics , food rheology, polymer analytics, formulations , and R&D.

Specific tasks:

  • Sample preparation of different samples including thermosensitive materials and biopolymers
  • Experimentation: running advanced rheological tests to analyze viscosity, shear stress, temperature influence, frequency and amplitude sweeps
  • Data analysis using nonlinear fittings and mathematical corrections

What We Offer:

  • Hands-on access to our newly-upgraded Narrow Gap rheometer and lab facilities
  • Close guidance from experienced supervisors and team members
  • A chance to generate some of the first data on the new set up, advanced research with real-world relevance

Requirements:

  • Motivated student with a background in Chemical Engineering , Fluid Mechanics, Materials Science, or a related field
