Inter- and Intra-Faculty Activities

LSTM is active in various inter- and intra-faculty collaborations in both research and teaching, at the national as well as international levels. A significant collaboration is with the South Korean German Engineering Research and Development Center LSTME in Busan.

The Erlangen Graduate School in Advanced Optical Technologies (SAOT) is a part of the Excellence Initiative by the federal and state governments and was established at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg in November 2006. It emphasizes promoting science and research in the field of optics at German universities. Its strong international orientation is evident through collaborations with foreign research institutions, universities, and companies.

The Center for Functional Particle Systems (FPS), originating from the EAM Excellence Cluster, combines various research positions that unify research on the formation, order, characterization, and interactions of particles. Besides exploring cutting-edge questions in modern labs, FPS lays the foundation for an international scientific network in particle research.

The Central Institute for Scientific Computing is an interdisciplinary center at FAU, established with the aim of consolidating the expertise of various research institutions in the realm of computer-aided research and development. In addition to exchanging experiences, another objective is to create a launching platform for innovative and highly interdisciplinary research projects.

The LSTM Erlangen’s Support Association (LSTME) e.V. is affiliated as an associated institute with the FAU. It aims to uphold the high standards of German engineering on an international scale and strengthen collaborations with partners from the Korean industry and research sectors. Additionally, it offers top-notch continuing education and training programs.

Special attention is given to projects centered on research and development concerning biological and medical processes covering all facets of human biology. LSTME thus facilitates the connection between experts from a wide scientific spectrum to study these highly complex interdisciplinary challenges. Such cross-disciplinary approaches are crucial in meeting the vast expertise required to develop sustainable solutions for future challenges in pharmaceutical applications.

As a part of the Brain Busan 21 project, initiated and funded by the city of Busan, the Brain Busan Graduate School of Wind Energy was established. Affiliated research groups utilize LSTME’s laboratories for theoretical, numerical, and experimental studies. Additionally, they participate in conferences both nationally and internationally to foster collaborations with enterprises and premier universities in South Korea.
